Kensington KeyFolio Pro with Bluetooth Keyboard for iPad Air

WHAT IS IT:  Leather folio case with keyboard for iPad Air

NEW, FUTURE or RETRO:  New

PREVIEW or REVIEW:  Review

HOW GOOD IT IS:  This case is beautiful. It is constructed of real sheepskin leather, the keyboard is all metal and very solidly built and has a nice touchtype “feel” to it, the case offers excellent protection for the iPad Air and there is no fussy setup required, just open it and use it.

HOW WELL DOES IT WORK: The first thing you should know is that adding a folio case like this will quickly turn your svelte, thin, one-pound iPad into a boat anchor. That is not a negative, it is a reality. Folios like this are not intended to be used 24/7 but as a means to turn your iPad tablet into a reasonable facsimile of a laptop computer. The keyboard is held in place with magnets and the variable angle of the screen (iPad) is also held by magnets. The entire iPad is enveloped in a leather frame for maximum protection and minimum concern that it could possibly fall out. The keyboard can be slid around to suit your typing style or removed entirely, perhaps to sit on your lap while the case holds your iPad on your desktop.

DO YOU NEED IT: This KeyFolio Pro case essentially turns your iPad Air into a mini notebook/netbook, with a built-in full featured keyboard. It is about as small as you could possibly go to get a usable screen size and a keyboard you can touch type on.

HOW IT IMPACTS YOU: Some of us need a real laptop for business when we travel for accessing business apps and corporate communications. But many people don't, they just want a real keyboard to type a few reports, emails and maybe some creative work. Folios like this give you the best of both worlds ... a sophisticated computer (the iPad) and a physical keyboard that you can touch type on. Plus you get the added benefit of a case that protects your iPad from the rigors of travel.

COMMENTS:  I often recommend that iPad users own two cases ... one ultralight cover-type case for everyday use to protect the screen (and the back of the device if you choose a wraparound cover. That type of case takes full advantage of the slim lightweight iPad form factor. The other case should be padded with a working latch and enough heft to protect the device while traveling. As long as you are adding the extra bulk and weight why not choose to include a keyboard in the mix?
